Support in learning R

R is a software package for statistical computing which is needed in many of our courses (Intro to statistical inferernce, Intro to statistics in bioinformatics, Expression data analysis, Systems biology). R is installed in all the computers in the U of Tampere micro rooms, but if you need it for your own laptop/destop computer, you can download it from the R project home page.

An introductory short book/tutorial on R   in basic statistical problems by John Verzani. This is easier for learning basic things than the official Introduction to R in the Manuals page of the R project, but the official manual goes deeper in advanced features.

A draft version of a guidebook called Using R and Bioconductor for DNA microarray data analysis (Tuimala and Rudd, Eds.) is available on Jarno Tuimala's home page (lowest in the list of links). Chapter 2 in this book is a carefully written introduction into basic R usage.

Teaching video of R by Bairong Shen is available in his course Expression data analysis, lecture 2. If you do not already have the password for the videos, you can get it by requesting from Bairong Shen.
